Our Mission

The mission of OpenForge is to empower forges, such as Launchpad, Sourceforge, ShareSource and CodingTeam. To promote the idea that sharing is caring, and that individuals have control over their project's data by determing how they can use it and who can use it.

OpenForge's open protocol allows simple, easy to access methods. At last, Forges will be able to serve users better, by showing proper results from more then just their own database.

Philosophy

The Philosophy behind OpenForge is that:

  • Data should be easily exchanged.
  • Data should not be 'owned' by any particular company.
  • Any information traded should be transport independant, with the same results occuring with both HTTP and HTTPS

How OpenForge works?

OpenForge is an XML-based format for distributing data that a forge contains about projects and users. It is similar in vain of APML (Attention Profiling Mark-up Language), which is also an XML-based format - but for capturing a person's interests and dislikes.
